Objectives: In the seminar we will study jointly the book:
Hastie, T., Tibshirani, R. & Friedman, J. (2009): The Elements of Statistical Learning: Data Mining, Inference, and Prediction, Second Edition, Springer.

The book can be downloaded from Tibshirani’s webpage:

Target group: Students in statistics (S), doctoral students and researchers from other disciplines.

Prerequisites: A good knowledge of statistical methods.

Teaching methods: Students will in turn present sections of the book which will be jointly discussed.

The seminar takes place Tuesdays at 10-12, seminar room 469, Publicum, 17.9.2013 – 10.12.2013 (the seminar will not be weekly but irregularly approximately every other week).

Evaluation: Active participation in seminar (passed/failed)
